Lily Allen Insists New Release West End Girl Is Not A Revenge Album

Lily AllenLily Allen is maintaining that her confessional new release West End Girl shouldn’t be considered a “revenge” album.On Friday, the chart-topping singer unveiled her fifth album after a seven-year break from the pop scene, which she’s said was partly inspired by the breakdown of her marriage to Stranger Things star David Harbour.To promote the album, Lily recently spoke to Interview magazine, during which editor Mel Ottenberg questioned if her new era should be considered a “revenge tour”.“It isn’t,” she insisted with a laugh. “I mean, I wrote this record in 10 days in December and I feel very differently about the whole situation now.“We all go through breakups and it’s always fucking brutal. But I don’t think it’s that often that you feel inclined to write about it while you’re in it.”She continued: “That’s what’s fun about this it’s viscerally like going through the motions. At the time [of recording it], I was really trying to process things and that’s great in terms of the album, but I don’t feel confused or angry now. I don’t need revenge.”After pointing out that “some of” West End Girl is “based on truth” while other parts are “fantasy”, she added: “It’s not a cruel album. I don’t feel like I’m being mean. It was just the feelings I was processing at the time.”Towards the end of the conversation, Lily was asked if the album helped her get through her breakup, but she confirmed: “I checked into a treatment centre six weeks afterwards.
