Appearing on “The View” Monday, Sanders slammed Trump for targeting protesters on social media after he was asked what he thinks the “end game” will be between Republicans and Democrats amid the ongoing government shutdown.“The end game is, look — Trump may be crazy, and he may be a liar, and he may do … I mean, hard to imagine a president — I mean, I don’t know what world these guys are living in. President of the United States dropping faeces on an American city,” Sanders said.Sen. Bernie Sanders and President Donald Trump.Sanders added that Republicans are “not stupid” and said they’re currently “hiding out” as a tactic during the shutdown, which began on October 1. “Why do you think the Republicans are hiding out right now?” he asked. “Mike Johnson, the speaker, has given them their fifth week of vacation. They’re not coming to work.” Sanders added, “You want to negotiate? They ain’t there. All right. So, I think that when people all over this country are looking at these notices saying, ‘I can’t pay a doubling of my health insurance premiums,’ Republicans will understand that and come to the table.”The shutdown was partially sparked by a partisan argument over Affordable Care Act health insurance subsidies that are due to expire at the end of the year. If Congress doesn’t reach a decision soon, premiums will more than double, on average, for over 20 million people. Watch Sanders’ appearance on “The View” below.
